From Dark to Delightful
Transforming a show house foyer with simple, impactful updates.
Stepping into a home should feel inviting, not like an afterthought. That’s why, when we designed and styled the foyer for the Junior League Show House, the goal was to create a space that was not only beautiful but also functional, approachable, and filled with light.
This foyer had great bones—classic architecture, natural light filtering through the door, and a practical layout—but it felt dark, dated, and disconnected from the rest of the home. The good news? A handful of simple updates made a world of difference, proving that sometimes, small changes can have the biggest impact.
Key Updates That Made This Foyer Shine
Before Photos
1. Fresh Coat of Paint for an Instant Brightening Effect
A neutral, warm-toned paint refreshed the space, making the room feel larger, lighter, and more inviting. The trim and doors were also updated with a crisp finish to highlight the architectural details without overwhelming the space.
2. New Lighting & Switches for a Polished Look
Out went the outdated fixture, replaced with a sleek, modern light that feels fresh yet timeless. We also swapped the old switches for updated ones, proving that even the smallest details can elevate a space.
3. Functional Yet Stylish Rug
This laminate rug is a game-changer—soft underfoot yet incredibly easy to wipe clean. It brings in a touch of pattern and warmth while standing up to everyday wear (and four-legged family members!).
4. An Updated Dog Door
A pet-friendly home should never compromise on style. The old dog door was replaced with a more streamlined, updated version that blends seamlessly into the design while still serving its purpose.
5. Artwork That Fits the Scale of the Space
Instead of keeping the mismatched frames from before, we reframed the artwork to better suit the proportions of the wall, adding balance and visual cohesion to the space.
6. Layered Details for a Welcoming Touch
A woven tote, a simple wooden stool, and carefully placed accessories complete the look—proving that styling is just as important as structure when it comes to making a space feel intentional.

The Takeaway: Small Changes, Big Impact
This transformation wasn’t about knocking down walls or making major renovations. Instead, it was about making smart, strategic updates that brought out the best in the space.
A foyer sets the tone for the entire home. By embracing light, function, and thoughtful design choices, this once-dark hallway is now an inviting and stylish first impression.
